Children's Classes

New for Spring 2015, ages 8-13* starting February 2

 

 

Sessions are Monday nights 4:30-5:30pm, and will cover many art basics though in class activities. 

Students will learn fundamental art techniques such as measuring and shading, be able to try new drawing and painting materials, and learn about historical art movements and famous artists. 

 

Students are required to bring their own sketchbook, ideally at least 10"x14" in size, and provide pencils/erasers. Students are welcome to bring other materials, though shareable medium such as colored pencils, pastels and watercolor paints are available as necessary for no extra cost. 

 

Each month there will be three structured classes covering a technique, a medium, an artist or an art movement. The last Monday of each month is a 'free day' where students will be encouraged to work on any artwork of their choosing as a way to further explore the concepts and ideas talked about in class. 

 

Classes are $40 per every 4 classes and a one-time $10 materials fee, so basically $40 per month. If your child has to skip a class or classes for any reason, the extra class can be rolled over to the next month or credited to any other class at Upper Story Studio. The classes are generally not in any kind of building/chronological order and some of the more 'important' classes will be repeated from time to time for new students to catch up and older students to review, so if a child needs to take a few weeks or months off for other obligations this is absolutely fine, they're welcome to come back any time. Students may also join class any time.

 

Multiple child discount- If you are enrolling more than one child from the same family in class, the second child is half price for both class fee and material fee ($20/month and $5 for materials.)
