Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do you host any childrens classes?

Currently I do not host any classes suitable for children under age 10-11 (5th grade.) The reason for this is purely logistical- the bathroom/cleanup sink for the space is located in a separate room that requires leaving the studio completely to access, and while this isn't a problem for older children and adults, it is a safety concern for younger children. Eventually there will be a bathroom and cleaning sink added inside of the studio, at which point I can start hosting childrens classes, but until then any children under 10 attending a class MUST be accompanied by an adult.

2. Could I book a children's painting party/ scouting/4-H group of younger kids at your studio?

Yes, as long as there are adult chaperones present to help with supervision, I am happy to schedule events for children at Upper Story Studio, contact us via email or phone to speak about possible options and scheduling

3. I cannot walk up stairs to get to the studio, is there an elevator, or is the second story of the        building handicapped accessible in any way?

Unfortunately, as much as I love being in a historic building, there is no elevator or means other than stairs to access the studio, and no real ability to correct this problem.

However, I don't feel that those who want to take classes should have to miss out because of this. If you would like to take classes from  me but cannot use stairs, I can arrange to do private in-home lessons or set up an alternative, accessible location. Please contact me with any questions regarding private lessons.

4. Is there an 'expiration date' on classes?

If you purchase a package of multiple classes, I would prefer you use them within 6 months of purchase. I like to develop a real relationship with my students in order to teach them better, and feel that most people get the most out of classes if they come on a fairly regular basis, though I totally understand that life is busy and some weeks or months can simply become too hectic to fit classes into.

5. Can I purchase a class package as a gift for another person?

Absolutely! Gift certificates for classes are availible in any amount to cover any classes.

6. You say you teach beginners through advanced- what does that mean?

I believe that anyone can benifit from being creative and setting aside time for artistic development, and that art does not need to be 'perfect' 'great' or even necessarily 'good' in order for it to be benificial for the artist making it- it is the process of making, creating, learning and improving that is of major benifit, and anyone is capable of improving their skills given instruction and practice.

So weather you already have an art degree and are looking to further improve in order to becoming a practicing professional artist, are a high school student looking to be challenged more, and considering majoring in art or design in college, or if you haven't touched art supplies since the 4th grade but you have a board on Pinterest full of projects that you really want to make but don't know how to start,

Upper Story Studio classes are definitely for you!
